A family first
Angela PlattsAngela left school without qualifications and admits it is because she didn’t work hard enough.   Later on when suffering Cushings disease her self confidence disappeared and she felt she would never achieve anything good in her life.
She decided to return to learning because she wanted a better future for herself and her family.  She wanted to be a good role model for her children and encourage them to work hard at school and to value their education.  She also wanted to pursue her dream of becoming a children’s nurse.
Angela’s confidence and self esteem has increased since starting her learning journey and has worked extremely hard to reach her current standard and status, and has recently been accepted at Sheffield Hallam University to train to become a children’s nurse.  No one else in her family has been to University and her parents, partner and children are all very proud of her.
Angela Platts, age 32, Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire
Nominated by: Diane Webb, Sure Start Erewash Children’s Centre
