A gently prompt by a sister lead to success
Althought Yvonne left school with no qualifications, she lacked confidence in herself and didn’t know where she was going with her life, but knew she liked working with people and had an interest in health. Firstly prompted by her sister she began to study for an NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care. Although she found it hard she managed to complete it in 6 months. Yvonne then applied for and got a job at Beaumont Leys health Centre who sent her on a training course to become a phlebotomist. She was now able to do the community bloods, going into peoples’ homes who weren’t able to get to the surgery.
With this experience behind her she applied for a job as a phlebotomist and Health Care assistant at a large medical practice in Syston, and has now progresses to running her own clinics.
Yvonne is proof that people can give themselves the chance to have a fulfilling work role by setting out to achieve their dreams through work related learning.
