Kevin works at Birmingham International Airport
Kevin Madhoo has been employed by Birmingham International Airport Ltd as a Building Management Controller within the Engineering Department since 1984.  Kevin and his colleagues take all the calls about maintenance problems across the airport site and allocate work to in house team members and contractors accordingly. Often the calls are vague and descriptions lack detail so Kevin has to piece information together so work can be done to keep the airport running smoothly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring services such as air conditioning, key pads, air bridges and ground power units are all working.
Kevin has had an interest in electronics for many years.  He attended college after school to pursue a career in electronics and achieved an ordinary technical certificate.  His initial job at Birmingham Airport had responsibility for the control of operation of the Maglev system, the transport system which took passengers between the International railway station and the airport.  Within a year of joining the airport Kevin registered from a BTEC programme in electronic engineering with Matthew Boulton Technical College.  He successfully completed the course and progressed to a Higher Certificate in Electronic Engineering.  All Kevin's studies have taken place alongside his full time shift work and family commitments.
Kevin says "Studying and working requires great commitment and patience from your friends and family but the rewards are worth it."  Kevin has studied part time over a 20 year period with the final accolade of success achieving a Masters in Science in Power Electronics and Drives.
