Mohamed's Story

MohammedI’m studying at the moment. I’m doing my full-time course. It’s ESOL, and IT. IT BTEC at work. Plus English course. Level 1 English. I was born in Somalia. I recently came in to Britain just 5 years ago.

So I’ve been in Britain for the past 5 years. I came to Britain on the 2nd of February 2001. So I’ve been here for about 5 years. And I’ve been doing my course for about 2 and a half years now. My main course is going to be finished July this year in QIC, so I’m planning to go into the next stage, which is a kind of access course, which will allow me to go into a university, you know higher education.

I have my primary and intermediate education back home in Somalia, before the civil war. I don’t know if you are aware, but in Somalia there was a very destructive civil war, going on for the past 15 years. So before the civil war there was a normal education system in the whole country. So I was doing my primary and intermediate course before the civil war. So when the civil war came out, the education system has been destroyed and the whole country so before the civil war I did my basic education.
