Digital Unite DU began life in 1996 as Hairnet UK Ltd. It changed its name in January 2006. It was started as a computer and Internet training initiative for the over 50s by two young women, Caroline Lambie and Emma Solomon. As access to the Web started to take off in the UK, they realised that people of their parents' generation often needed a special approach to learning new technology.
They were overwhelmed by the response to their initial classes and swiftly gained a Millennium Award for Hairnet's jargon-free approach and supporting training materials. Their approach to IT access and IT skills training laid the foundation for subsequent stages of the company's development.
